Specialised engineering and consulting services

We offer a full electrical, instrumentation and control system design service, backed by the diverse technical expertise of our team. We are leaders in the field of hazardous areas and explosion protection and have significant capability in power systems and energy management, including renewables.

Our strategy from the outset has been to hire only talented engineers with proven track records, who are pragmatic, good communicators and enjoy providing great service to customers. We’re good at what we do and we enjoy it, and our customers enjoy working with us as a result.

QGE have delivered projects across a wide range of industries. See some of our recent projects below.

Offshore LNG Projects

QGE have conducted hazardous area inspections, audits, supervision of contractors and project package vendors to ensure compliance for large offshore gas projects, with Australia’s strict hazardous area requirements. QGE’s team have conducted inspections on over 100 vendors throughout Europe and Korea on a tight schedule to help keep large multi billion dollar projects on track.

Gold Expansion Project, Senegal

Electrical and instrumentation design for duplication of the crushing circuit at a West African gold processing plant. QGE completed the design and managed the tender process for the transformers, switchboards and field equipment for the upgrade project and completed switchboard FAT testing in Perth prior to sending the equipment to site.

Tamrookum Dairy Solar Array

Electrical design, procurement and construction management for a 77 kW solar array at Tamrookum Dairy. Tamrookum’s load profile and energy usage were such that they were considered a “large” consumer by Energex and were billed with a maximum demand charge. By installing local solar PV generation QGE are able to offset the grid power consumption such that Tamrookum will no longer be considered a large consumer and will be billed solely on usage.

Coal Handling Port Upgrade

QGE completed power system modelling and analysis for a major coal handling port upgrade project. Our engineers completed a load flow analysis, fault study, earthing assessment, harmonic analysis and arc-flash hazard level analysis. We also completed the detailed design for the modifications to the site high voltage infrastructure, including HV switchgear, HV cables and transformers for the project.

Rivalea Farms Biogas

Rivalea Piggery installed a biogas collection and flare system to harvest methane from their effluent ponds. QGE assisted with a hazardous area classification of the facility and a compliance review of the electrical installation.

Wagners Cement

QGE undertook electrical design, hazardous area classificiations, and control systems reviews for Wagners' Pinkenba Cement plant upgrade. QGE have also provided a review of the HV installation against best practice and power quality audits.

Our people are the key to our ongoing success. Read on for brief profiles of our management team.

Cris Kerrison

BE, FIEAust, CPEng, IntPE(Aus), RPEQ, Accredited Hazardous Area Installation Auditor

Cris has 30 years’ experience in electrical engineering and management, and has held senior positions in large engineering firms. At QGE he is much closer to the coal face and is able to put his talents to use delivering for customers. Cris is one of Australia’s foremost authorities on hazardous areas and explosion protection and regularly presents at conferences and events on the subject.

Paul Wicks

BE, RPEQ, Accredited Hazardous Area Installation Auditor

With 20 years’ experience in engineering and management across a wide range of industries, Paul is a recognised authority on explosion protection and on electrical design generally. His is the brain we pick when we’ve got a tricky one. The surprising thing, given how clever the guy is, is that he speaks like a normal person and doesn’t wear a pocket protector.

Michael Schmidtchen

BE(Hons), MIEAust, CPEng, RPEQ, Accredited Hazardous Area Installation Auditor

Mike has 25 years’ experience in diverse engineering and management roles. An authority on general electrical design, lighting and BCA compliance, as well as an accredited hazardous area installation auditor, Mike’s attention to detail and focus on quality ensures that our team delivers the service our clients need.

Michael Day

Dip Proj Mgt, BE, MIEAust, CPEng, RPEQ

General Manager, Renewables and Energy

Mike is an electrical project engineer with multidiscipline experience across the resources, pharmaceutical, agricultural and food and beverage sectors. His passion is in helping our clients to identify opportunities to save money by optimising the way they access and use energy, and implementing the solutions to make the savings happen, which makes him the perfect candidate to head up our energy management service offering.
