Scope

QGE was engaged by the client to prepare a pre-feasibility (PFS), feasibility (FS), and later a definitive feasibility study (DFS) to evaluate and confirm the technical and economic feasibility of upgrading the existing Saboldala Power Station from a nameplate generation capacity of 43 MVA to 72 MVA to accommodate additional electrical load.

QGE then commenced the FEED works including site audits, design criteria, scopes of work and specifications. QGE provided power system studies, procurement and supplier management, project and contract management and much more.

Background

The Sabodala mine is located in the east of Senegal, approximately 650 km east-southeast of the capital Dakar and 96 km north of the city of Kedougou which provides for a challenging environment for site works. The mine is operated by Sabodala Gold Operations S.A., a Senegalese subsidiary of Endeavour Mining.

QGE has completed numerous projects for Sabodala Gold Operations, supporting the site through numerous projects for nearly a decade.

Outcomes

QGE provided design works including the design of a 30 km 33 kV overhead line to service the personnel camps, and was recently awarded the detailed design for the integration of a 30 MW solar farm and a 20 MW / 20 MWh BESS into the expanded power station.

QGE has delivered innovative technical solutions to overcome complex engineering issues relating to power system strength, inertia, voltage stability, reactive power control, load control and generation reconfiguration. Our services have also included economic modelling to reduce both short-term and long-term OPEX, with our work representing outstanding value for our client.
