Scope

QGE has been providing electrical engineering services to the petroleum industry since Cris Kerrison started QGE in 2010. QGE’s expertise in electrical design for hazardous areas, hazardous area classification and control systems integration fits in well with the petroleum industry and QGE have developed a reputation for producing very high-quality work for good value.

QGE have assisted with various aspects of petroleum site design including:

  • Electrical design and integration for dispensers, submersible turbine pumps, LPG systems, tank gauging systems, instrumentation and emergency shutdown systems
  • Retail shop building services including assessment to the energy efficiency requirements of the National Construction Code (NCC)
  • Lighting design to ensure that the retail outlet is very well lit to attract customers and provide safety, but ensure compliance to AS/NZS 4282 (Control of the obtrusive effects of outdoor lighting) so the site does not bother the neighbours
  • PLC and communications systems design and implementation
  • Classification of hazardous areas

Background

Petroleum sites, due to the flammable liquids and gases that are present, are classified as “Hazardous Areas” under the AS/NZS 60079 series of standards. Retail sites such as service stations are used by the untrained general public, meaning that prevention of an explosion or fire and compliance to standards are paramount.

The AS/NZS 60079 series of standards sets out the strict and sometimes complicated requirements for the design, construction and maintenance of electrical equipment for hazardous areas.

QGE provide consulting services for the petroleum industry on retail fuel sites, motorway sites, truck-stops, fuel terminals, marine re-fuelling facilities and ship unloading.

Outcomes

QGE’s know-how and experience with fuel systems, petroleum and hazardous areas has made QGE the preferred electrical engineering design consultants for a number of retailers, importers and architects across the country.

Why Choose Us

WE ARE THE EXPERTS IN THE FIELD
